The Flin Flon Bombers only had to score two goals last night as Cal Schell once again was brilliant in stopping 26 shots as the Bombers went into the Cage and beat the Nipawin Hawks 2 to 1.
Schell is proving it isn't necessarilly how many saves you make but when you make them as he was there with many timely saves in last night's win.
The Hawks only managed 6 shots in the first period, but three of them were great chances. He also stood tall in the last few minutes of the game as the Hawks pulled their goalie and got a late power play but couldn't score.
I counted at least three chances from point blank range that Schell was able to deliver big stops.
Schell improves to 5-2 and his save percentage now sits at a solid .930. Schell was also awarded the SJHL Goalie Of The Week for his great play last week that saw him pick up back to back shut outs.
Cole Vardy and Jeremi Tremblay provided the offense with Vardy scoring just 1:04 into the opening period on the PP.
Vardy fired a beautiful shot over Chase Hamm's right shoulder for his third of the season.
After Rylan Lefebvre tied the game in the second, the red hot Jeremi Tremblay was able to answer with a nice wrister through the legs of Hamm which did stand up as the game winner.
It was a good goaltending match-up both ways with Hamm finishing up with 33 saves.
This was a big win for the Bombers as they have sole possesion of second place in the Sherwood Division at 7-3. Nipawin will fall to 5 and 3 but still have two games in hand on Flin Flon.
Next up will be the Melville Millionaires who come to town for a pair of games this weekend and we will have Friday's game here on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:15.
