After reeling off 9 wins in ten games, the Flin Flon Bombers dropped their second straight decision 3 to 2 in Melfort last night.
Alex Rondeau opened things up on a 5 on 3 power play to give Melfort a quick 1-0 lead. That goal would hold up til late in the second period.
Donavan Houle blistered a beautiful shot over Shawn Parkinson's right shoulder with just under 2 minutes left in the second to tie the score at one.
Melfort re-took the lead when Seth McCulloch was left alone in the slot early in the third. The Bombers would manage to tie the game for a second time when Tristan Lemyre deflected a Cole Vardy shot from the blue line.
That is 18 points in the last 19 games for the red hot Lemyre who scored his 26th of the year.
With the game looking like it may be headed to OT, Kyle Bosch blocked a shot and was able to convert a partial break away with Cole Vardy draped all over him and scored the winning goal with less than two minutes left on the clock.
This is a huge win for Melfort, who are now tied with Laronge with 59 points for fifth overall. The Wolves got blown out in Estevan last night.
The Mustangs continue to have the Bombers number this year and have beaten them in 4 of the 5 meetings.
Shawn Parkinson was good when he had to be and he didn't have to face a lot of second or third shots. He made 27 saves for the win. His counter part Jacob Delorme was solid in suffering the loss with 28 saves on 31 shots.
Specialty teams were huge with the Mustangs going 1 for 3 and convertiing on their 5 on 3 while the Bombers were 0 for 3 and couldn't score on their 5 on 3.
Flin Flon will have to shake off this two game losing streak and get ready for the top team in the league.
North Battleford makes their much awaited return to the Whitney Forum this weekend for the first time since last year's playoffs.
Battleford leads the season series 3-1 but the Bombers did blast them in the last meeting 10 to 1.
