Wild Finish In Melville

It looked like the Melville Millionaires were about to pull off the major upset last night against the Flin Flon Bombers at the Horizon Credit Union Centre.

With just over 5 minutes remaining in regulation, Zach McIntire scored to put Melville up 3 to 2,  and the way that Berk Berkeliev was playing, it looked like that score might hold.

Good teams find ways to win games and the Bombers swarmed the Melville goal in the final couple minutes and got rewarded with three goals.

Alec Malo tied the game on a penalty shot, when the Mills pushed the net off  with the puck in the crease.

Flin Flon kept coming and Alec Malo, the current SJHL Player Of The Week scored again, this time the winning goal with just 31 seconds remaining in the game.

Zach Bannister would seel it with an empty netter against his former team right off the next face off.

Malo was the game's first star, potting two goals for his 20th and 21st of the season. He sits second in overall scoring with 82 points in 46 games.

With the win, the Bombers sit at 32-10-5 and inch a little closer to first place Battleford and trail the Stars by 11 points with two games in hand and the big showdown next weekend at the Whitney Forum.

Flin Flon will also sweep all 4 games against the Mills and picked up their 5th straight win and second on this road trip.

Jacob Delorme was back between the pipes and stopped 16 of 19 shots for his 21st win of the season.

Berk Berkeliev did everything he could in goal for Melville stopping 41 shots and almost beat the Bombers single handilly.

Flin Flon will get a day off today and resume the road trip in Notre Dame tomorrow and Estevan on Saturday.
