Sherwood Showdown To Close Out 2019

Fans will be treated to a Sherwood Heavy weight battle this weekend as the Flin Flon Bombers and Laronge Ice Wolves will close out 2019 with a home and home series.

The first game will take place at the Mel Hegland Uniplex tonight where the Wolves best the Bombers in OT just two weeks ago.

Flin Flon does lead the season series two games to one, but both those wins came on opening weekend and Laronge is a totally different team then they were in September.

This is definately the best Ice Wolf club since the Bob Beatty era and they are the hottest team in the league entering this weekend with points in six straight games.

Laronge is also starting to put some distance between them and Nipawin and lead the Hawks by 6 points for third in the division.

They trail second place Melfort by just one point and a weekend sweep of the Bombers could get them to within 4 points of the division lead.

Flin Flon hasn't played since last Saturday's statement 10 to 1 win over first place Battleford.

Alec Malo picked up 5 assists in that game and is tied with team mate Cole Rafuse for second overall in league scoring with 61 points. Malo doesn't get the hype that Donavan Houle and Cole Rafuse get, but he go's about his buisiness and is one of the best play makers in the league.

Tristan Lemyre enters the game with 19 points in his last 9 games and is the current SJHL Rookie Of The Week after picking up 10 points on the last road trip.

Lemyre capped off the week with a hat trick against the Stars last Saturday.

Flin Flon is starting to turn heads and have the first place Battleford Stars in their sights and enter the weekend 10 points behind Battleford with 3 games in hand.

Flin Flon continues to have the league's best  special teams with the best power play at 28.5 % and best penalty kill at 86.9 %. They also score more than anyone else averaging 5 goals a game and have found the back of the net 155 times in 34 games.

The Wolves are good offensively and sit fourth overall in goals  scored with 125.

No question,  Laronge will give Flin Flon all they can handle and this will be a very good test for the Maroon and White heading into the Christmas break.

You can catch both games here on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononmline.com beginning both nights with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.
