Off To Nipawin

A big weekend for the Flin Flon Bombers who travel to the Cage to face the Nipawin Hawks tonight before returning home to face Melfort tomorrow.

The Bombers are coming off a successful weekend in which they knocked off Humboldt in the shoot out on Thursday 6 to 5 and a convincing 9 to 3 win over Notre Dame on Friday.

Flin Flon is 7-2-1 in their last 10 and find them selves tied with Melfort for top spot in the Sherwood Division with 33 points.

The Sherwood is very competitive this season with only 3 points separating first and fourth spot.

It is a log jam,  but the Bombers have games in hand on every body with 3 games in hand on Nipawin, 2 on Melfort and 5 on Laronge.

Flin Flon has lost just 5 times in regulation which is second best in the league only behind Nort Battleford.

Mike Reagan has made some very good moves so far this season in particular to shore up the blue line.

The addidtions of veteran's Troy Quinn and Dane Hirst have rounded out the line- up nicely, and their forward group is as deep as anyone.

Cole Rafuse is red hot and was just awarded the SJHL Player Of The Week after adding 8 points in 2 games including 5 goals. He sits third in league scoring, 2 points behind team mate Alec Malo.

Congratulations to third year Bomber forward, Donavan Houle who has committed to the University of Maine, Division 1.

The 20 year old from Montreal has 19 goals and 13 assists in only 22 games.

Houle will be the first Bomber to attend Maine since Eddy Wood who won a national championship with that program in 1998-99.

The Hawks have struggled a bit lately going 4-4-2 in their last 10 but are unbeaten in their last 3.

Offense is definately a problem as they have only scored 70 goals in 26 games which is 34 less than Flin Flon who has played 23 times.

Nipawin also doesn't have a player in the top 20 in league scoring while the Bombers have 5.

Saying that, the Hawks are always tough to beat in their own building and are 8-3-2 at the Cage this season.

Flin Flon has had as much success there as anyone and are 7-7 in their last 14 visits.

You can catch tonight's game on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com starting with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30.
