Bombers Take Down The Hawks

After giving up 10 goals in their game against the Stars at the Showcase on Wednesday, fans were holding their breath with the undefeated Nipawin Hawks rolling into town on Saturday.

This looked like a totally different Flin Flon Bomber team who played a full 60 minutes and got rewarded with a solid 6-2 victory.

It took the Bombers only 1:15 in to find the score sheet with Matt Flodell re-directing his first of the season past Ethan Slobodzian.

Then the league's best power play went to work with Mason Martin firing a nice hard shot from the point to put the Bombers up 2-0.

Flin Flon then chased Slobodzian when Brandon Cianflone was left alone in front of the net and shovelled in a re-bound which stood up as the eventual game winner.

Hawk veteran Eric Sorensen did score late to get his team on the board, but it was a period totally dominated by the Bombers.

Flin Flon would get the only goal in the second from Trystan Lemyre who finished up a beautiful tic tac toe play with Donavan Houle and Cole Rafuse.

The other Bomber goals came from Houle who scored his 9th and Easton Haygarth who potted his first into the empty net.

Michael Makarenko scored the other Nipawin goal.

One of the most impressive stats of the night for me was the Bombers holding the Hawks to just 21 shots in the entire game. Nipawin got 12 of those shots in the third period.

I have broadcast a lot of games with the Hawks through out the last couple of decades and I don't remember ever seeing them dominated like I did on Saturday night.

It was a night that rookie goalie Jaden Little will not forget stopping 19 out of 21 shots for his first ever SJHL win.

Veteran starter Jacob Delorme got hurt at the Showcase, so Bomber Head Coach Mike Reagan was scrambling to find a goalie and found Little in Junior B. Little did attend the Swan Valley Stampeders camp.

The Bomber power play continues to sizzle going 3 for 8 and is a league best 31.1%

After the win Saturday, Flin Flon will improve to 5-2 and will be off til Friday when they welcome the Kindersley Klippers to town.

We will have the broadcast of Saturday's game including the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.

Flin Flon also completed the Weyburn trade for Cade Kowalski last season by sending Shayde Peterson to the Wings on Friday.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan was disappointed to see Peterson go and mentioned to get a good player you have to give up a good player.

Peterson will be a very good player in this league and will be a nice addition to the Wings.
