Bombers Prepare For Wolves

The Flin Flon Bombers enter the final weekend of the SJHL regular season, 7th overall and in a wild card situation.

There is still a chance they could move up to 6th, if they win their three remaining games and hope the Humboldt Broncos lose  their last two.

Flin Flon is 32-20-1-2 while Humboldt is 34-18-3-1. If the two teams were to be tied at the end of the season, the team with more wins would win the tie breaker.

Fresh off a 3-1 win over the defending champion Nipawin Hawks on Tuesday, the Bombers are hoping they turned the page and can roll into the post season on a high.

Regardless if they wind up 6th or 7th, they need to put together a streak just to get their confidence back and give themselves a fighting chance heading into the playoffs.

Flin Flon is coming off a miserable February which saw them go 3-7, but they did wrap up the month with an impressive win over the Hawks.

Tyler Higgins made his return to the club on Tuesday, and made his presence felt scoring a goal and using his massive frame to deliver a lot of good hits. Not to mention his long reach and experience go's a long way as well.

There appears to be more good news on the way as veteran d-man Calvon Boots is back skating with the club and should be ready for the playoffs. Boots could even play this weekend, but the team may not want to rush him back.

Mike Reagan is confident that his team can still be a factor. " We are not out of this thing, as we feel we have the deepest group of forwards in the league and if we can get some goaltending I like our chances against anybody. Right before our latest slump, we won 9 in a row and know what we are capable of."

Flin Flon will face the Laronge Ice Wolves in a home and home this weekend, and the Wolves will not be a push over. Laronge proved that the last time they played on January the 8th, when the Bombers built up a 4-1 lead and had to hang on for a 5-4 win.

The Wolves also made a coaching change late in the season, informing Evan Vossen that he would not be returning as Head Coach and GM next season. Both parties agreed to part ways for the remainder of this year.

Assistant Coach and local product Gaelan Patterson will man the bench for the rest of the year and is 1-1 so far in his brief tenure.

The Bombers lead the season series 7-1, but a lot of the games have been tight , especially at the Whitney Forum and I am expecting the Wolves to throw everything at Flin Flon this weekend.

You can catch all the action in both games this weekend including tonight's game on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com. We will hit the air with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and play by play at 7:30.
