Bombers Win Fourth Straight

It was an absolutely electric atmosphere last night at the Whitney Forum as the Flin Flon Bombers took care of business and held off the Melfort Mustangs 5-4.

Flin Flon came into the game with lots of confidence after a 5 - 3 win in Melfort the night before.

Specialty teams were huge with the Bombers opening things up with a short handed goal from Caleb Moretz just 1:43 into the opening period. Melfort responded on the same power play just 35 seconds later with Colin Schmidt gobbling up a juicy rebound.

With the game tied at one early in the second, Vincent Nardone batted in a loose puck, getting behind the Stangs starting goaltender Shawn Parkinson to put the B's back in front 2-1.

The Mustangs would tie the game with a short handed goal of their own , when SJHL leading scorer Justin Ball broke in on a break away and fired a shot five hole on new Bomber goalie Gabriel Waked. This was Ball's 42nd marker of the year.

Flin Flon took their third lead of the game courtesy of Billy Klymchuk, before the Mustangs Rondeau scored another short handed goal to tie it at 3 after 2.

Lot's more offense in the third with Melfort taking their first lead courtesy of a nice point shot from Nolan Kadachuk which seemed to lift the Mustangs bench.

The Bombers never stopped skating or hitting and it paid off with two more goals in the third period. Daylan Marchi got the Bomber power play going, capitalizing on a goal line scramble potting his 16th of the season.

One of the new additions in just his second game, Cade Kowalski made his presence felt potting the winner on a nice set up from Bomber captain Nate Hooper.

Kowalski is thrilled to be a Bomber and showed his new team mates there is a lot more to his game then just offense. He threw some good hits and made a great defensive play in last night's big win.

Gabriel Waked made his Bomber debut stopping 26 out of 30 Mustang shots and I thought played quite well for his first start in a number of weeks.

Shwan Parkinson took the loss, letting in 5 goals on 35 Bomber shots.

I thought this was the most intense game I have witnessd this year and would love to see these two teams battle in the playoffs. Know one on either team left anything on the ice ths past wekend.

Flin Flon is on a roll with their fourth straight win and weekend sweep of the Mustangs.

With last night's win, Flin Flon is just 2 points behind Melfort for second in the Sherwood Division at 24-13-0-2. The Bombers also have a game in hand.

Flin Flon is still 7th overall, but are closing the gap on Humboldt and Battleford. The Bombers are one point back of the Bronco's with 3 games in hand and 2 points back of The Stars with a game in hand.

The SJHL will be idle the next few days for the SJHL/MJHL Showcasw which will take place tomorrow and Tuesday in Regina.

Good luck and congratulations to the 8 players representing the Flin Flon Bombers. Vincent Nardone, Cade Kowalski,Calvon Boots,Donavan Houle, Caleb Moretz,Daylan Marchi, Chrys Collin and Nate Hooper.

Next action for the Bombers will be this weekend, with 3 games in 3 nights including a Friday night tilt in Melville, Saturday in Yorkton and back in Melville Sunday.
