Bombers Make Statement

In what has to be described as one of their most complete games of the year, the Flin Flon Bombers played a solid 60 minutes and knocked off the first place Nipawin Hawks 4-1 at the Cage last night.

The Bombers were already buzzing before the puck even dropped with the announcement that they had landed 19 year old forward Cade Kowalski from the Weyburn Red Wings,  for 19 year old forward Dawson McKenzie and future considerations.

Flin Flon was jacked up with the news and were very motivated for puck drop.

After falling behind 1-0 after 1 on a power play goal from Colten Gerlib, the Bombers would score four unanswered.

It was a big second period that sparked the offense with Caleb Franklin (7), Vincent Nardone (15), and Crystopher Collin(11) all finding the back of the net.

Matt Flodell would get his first of the year re-directing a shot past Declan Hobbs for the only goal in the third period.

The SJHL Goalie Of The Week, Jacob Delorme was superb once again only giving up 1 goal on 28 Nipawin shots. He was particularly good in the third period with some monster saves to preserve the win.

Delorme is in a groove only allowing 3 goals against in his last 3 starts and has a save % of .908.

This was one of the few times I have seen Hobbs look ordinary, mind you Flin Flon was able to get a lot of good shots toward the net.

Hobbs stopped 25 out of 29 shots and sufered his 10th loss of the season.

The Bomber PK was nothing short of fantastic, killing 5 out of 6 Nipawin power plays including one 5 on 3. Flin Flon went 0 for 4 with the extra attacker.

Flin Flon's record will improve to 22-13-0-2 after last night's solid effort and also improved  to 8-4 against teams in the Sherwood Division.

After a up and down month of December, Flin Flon have won two straight and 3 of their last 4 and will now put their focus on another Sherwood Division opponent in the Melfort Mustangs.

It will be a home and home, Friday and Saturday with the first game at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort.

The Bombers have put themselves in a good spot and are only 4 points behind the Mustangs for second in the division. This will only be the second meeting of the season with Flin Flon winning 3-2 in Melfort back on November 1st.

Kowalski will make his Bomber debut on Friday and we will broadcast both games from the weekend right here on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
