Shoot Out Thriller

The Flin Flon Bombers were able to avenge a 5-3 loss in Yorkton Friday by picking up a 2-1 victory in the shoot out last night in Melville.

Jacob Delorme got the start and was nothing short of fantastik, stopping 36 out of 37 shots including some really big saves in OT.

Delorme is really finding his groove and has only given up 2 goals in his last 2 starts. His numbers are very respectable with a gaa of 3.04 and a save % of .907. He is 7-3 on the season.

Flin Flon opened up the scoring last night when Crystopher Collin broke in on Berk Berkeliev early in the second period, firing a puck through his legs for his 10th of the season.

I thought that might be enough offense the way that Delorme was playing, but Melville would tie the game with just over 3 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Mills leading scorer, Luke Spadafora scored from a strange angle to tie the game at 1 late in the third as Melville were really pouring it on.

After some scary moments for the Bombers late in regulation and OT, this game would need to be decided by the shoot out.

Caleb Moretz and Nate Hooper were able to find the back of the net in the second extra period and the Bombers grabbed a huge 2 points. Luke Spadafora got the only shoot out goal for Melville.

The other big story line was the Flin Flon penalty kill which stifled 8 Melville opportunities including, two 5 on 3's.

The Bombers continue to have one of the best pk units in the league, and it helped carry them to the victory last night. Flin Flon finished up 0 for 5 on their power play chances.

I was impressed with this new looking Millionaire team who skated hard and never stopped working all night. They are a lot of fun to watch and new Head Coach and GM Kyle Adams is slowly putting his stamp on this team.

They will not be an easy 2 points for anybody and Flin Flon still has to face them two more times this year.

After last night's very important two points, the Bomber record will improve to 21-13-0-2 and have moved to within 6 points of second place Melfort in the Sherwood Division. The Bombers also have a game in hand.

It is a very big week with the Maroon and White travelling to Nipawin Tuesday in a game that is re-scheduled from December the 4th, when Flin Flon's bus broke down. The Bombers will then face the Melfort Mustangs in a home and home series this weekend.

All three games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
