Bombers Roll Into New Year On A Losing Note

It wasn't the way the Flin Flon Bombers wanted to close out 2018 in Laronge last night. Flin Flon dropped their third straight and have only two wins in their last 6 games after a 6-3 loss  at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.

Laronge leading scorer Zach Bannister did a lot of the damage picking up a hat-trick including his 16th, 17th and 18th goals of the season. Other Ice Wolf goals came from Gudjonson, Fortner and Mish.

Flin Flon got their offense from Ryder Richmond, who scored his first ever SJHL goal in a losing cause. Dawson McKenzie added his 9th on the power play and Brandson Hein scored his team leading 31st.

Pierce Diamond suffered the loss stopping 33 out of 37 shots, but got little help from any of his players who played a very sloppy game in their own zone.

Laronge were able to get in tight on Diamond and bang in at least 3 opportunities after being left unguarded in front of the Bomber net. Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan mentioned on last night's CFAR Post Game Show, how dissappointed he was on his team's defensive coverage.

Daniel Davidson got the win for the Wolves and was pretty busy stopping 42 out of 45, but a lot of the Bomber shots came from the outside.

After last night's setback the Bomber record will fall to 19-12-0-2 which is third in the Sherwood and 7th overall, 5 points behind Humboldt for 6th, and 7 points behind Battleford for 5th.

The good news, Flin Flon has games in hand on virtually everybody, but that means nothing,  if you don't win them.

Tonight will be a good opportunity for the Bombers to rebound, and start the new year off right with the re-match against Laronge who should be feeling pretty good about themselves after a great effort last night.

I thought the Ice Wolves played a complete game and shut down the top Flin Flon offensive threats and caused a lot of turn overs in the neautral zone.

We should get a good indication of what the Bombers are made of after tonight. You can catch all the action on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com including the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.
