Big Weekend For Moretz, Marchi and Heine

It was a very good weekend for the Flin Flon Bombers who ended up sweeping the Melville Millionaires in a pair of games at the Whitney Forum. Assistant Coach Gary Childerhose had the bench with Head Coach Mike Reagan away scouting the AJHL Showcase.

It was an offensive explosion on Friday where the Maroon and White cruised to a 9- 1 victory courtesy of Caleb Moretz's first ever hat-trick. Brandson Heine had another good outing collecting 4 points, and Dalan Marchi added a goal and two assists.

Flin Flon got going on the powerplay finishing up 2 for 7 and also scored a short handed goal. Pierce Diamond stopped 33 out of 34 for his fourth straight win.

Veteran Colby Entz started for the Mills and was yanked after giving up 5 goals on 27 shots, before Berk Berkeliev came in releif stopping 13 out of 17. Ryan Butler was the only Melville player to get a puck past Diamond early in the second period.

After doing pretty much what ever they wanted on Friday, the Bombers knew they would face a different Melville team on Saturday.

It didn't look that way early as it only took Flin Flon 52 seconds to find the back of the net in the rematch. Daylan Marchi continued his hot streak  burying a nice shot past Berkeliev in the slot on the powerplay.

Nardone and Heine would also score in the opening frame with Dayton Heino replying for Melville with a nice wrap around goal while the Mills were short handed.

Caleb Moretz scored early in the second to make it 4-1 and it looked like it may be another run away contest for Flin Flon, bit Melville got things in check.

Ryan Heino and Jerome Payton scored his first of the season a couple minutes apart and Melville was in buisiness down 4-3 after 2.

The Mills came roaring out in the third but could not beat Pierce Diamond who may have played his best game as a Bomber, stopping 41 shots including 13 in the third period. Berk Berkeliev went the distance for Melville stopping 32 out of 36.

Flin Flon managed one powerplay goal in six opportunities, while Melville came up empty on only one attempt.

The Bombers improve to 5-3 on the young season and move into second spot in the Sherwood Division.  Three of their wins have come courtesy  of the Millionaires who drop to 1-6-1-1 after an afternoon loss in Laronge earlier today.

Hein and Moretz are the top point getters so far in the SJHL this season with Hein leading the way with 17 points including 9 goals and Moretz has 14 points with 9 goals.

Next up,  will  possibly be  the surprise team in the SJHL this season, the Kindersley Klippers who are 4-3 and feature one of the league's best tenders in Justin Close.

Action will hit the Whitney Forum, Friday and Saturday night with 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com having the call Saturday. It all starts with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.
