Team White 4, Team Maroon 3

Flin Flon Bomber Main Camp wrapped up last night at the Whitney Forum with the annual Maroon and White game, with Team White prevailing 4-3.

It was a very quick paced game that saw Team White jump out to a 2-0 lead after one period. Jayden Wiens who is only 15 and will suit up with Tisdale of the Saskatchewan Midget Triple A league this season opened up the scoring.

Veteran Daylan Marchi converted a Caleb Moretz pass to make it 2-0 late in the opening frame.

Local product Justin Lies got team Maroon on the board when he fired a shot top corner on Hunter Young. Winnipeg's Reid Robertson tied the game with just over a  minute remaining in the second period, re-directing a Justin Lies shot to fool Young.

It looked like the two teams would go to the dressing room tied after two, but Moretz scored with just one second on the clock and Team White reclaimed the lead 3-2.

Team White would carry the lead for almost the entire third period before veteran sniper Nate Hooper coverted a pass from Branson Hein to tie the game at 3 with just over a minute left in the game and force OT.

Caleb Moretz would score the OT winner with his second goal and third point of the day as Team White picked up the 4-3 victory.

Another local product, Jeremy Dutcawich was great for Maroon between the pipes stopping 17 out of 19 shots and I thought he moved and saw the puck very well. Pierce Diamond the veteran started and he made 16 saves on 18 shots.

Diamond was obtained earlier in the summer from Lloydminster of the AJHL. A pair of 18 year olds started for team White with Jacob Delorme from Drummondville Quebec stopping 13 out of 15 and Hunter Young from Okotoks Alberta stopped 19 out of 20.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan had this to say after the game. " I thoought the camp was pretty good, but as a coach you are always looking for more. It was an exciting Maroon and White game and now we can get oiur numbers down a little bit. I am excited to see us in exhibition against Nipawin and see what our draft picks can do and then it's off to Laronge Tuesday. Things are moving quick but it's exciting."

It will be an all rookie game in Nipawin tonight, 8:30 Manitoba time. Off to Laronge Tuesday before hosting the MJHL'S Swan Valley Stampeders on Thursday and Nipawin Friday.
