Survivor Series Starts Tonight

The Flin Flon  Bombers head into tonight's Survivor Series with the Notre Dame Hounds on a bit of a roll after crushing Laronge 8-3 in the final game of the regular season Friday night.

Matter of fact, since Christmas this has been a different team going 14-8-2-2 down the stretch including some big wins over Nipawin, Melfort and Battleford, the top three clubs.

Flin Flon is also getting healthy at the right time with Doug Johnson, Tyler Nyman and Brody Madarash all getting back into the lineup. No word yet on Jordan McCausland.

Tonight's matchup at the Whitney Forum will be the first game in a best of 3, so a good start for the Bombers will be crucial with the next two at the Duncan Mcneill Arena in Wilcox.

The season series was even at 2 wins a piece. The Hounds beat the Bombers at the Showcase and their first meeting in Wilcox back on October the 12th.

Flin Flon won the last two meetings including the only game at the Whitney Forum, 4-3 at the end of October and their most recent meeting in Notre Dame 4-3, a little over a week ago.

The Hounds are a lot different team in the second half of the season after it looked like they may challenge for a top 5 spot earlier in the year.

Since the injury to their no.1 goalie Jacob Standen, wins have been tough to come by for the Hounds in the second half of the season.  Notre Dame only have 5 wins in their last 15 games and literally limped into the post season.

These two teams are no strangers to each other and will meet in the playoffs for the third time in 4 years including the Bombers 4-1 series win last Spring.

Goaltending will be a big factor, with the Bombers having the edge with the experienced Brenden Newton and six series wins already on his resume, including last year's 5 game winner against the Hounds in the opening round.

Notre Dame do have some dangerours forwards in Longjohn,Smedsrud and Hamm, and if they get on track they may be tough to stop. I believe Flin Flon is deeper and have more secondary scoring, so I will give them the edge in this category as well.

In a short three game series anything can happen and dicipline will go a long way's too.

It all kicks off tonight at the Whitney Forum at 7:30, with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10. We will broadcast all the Bomber playoff games including, games 2 and 3 (if necessary ) from Wilcox, Tuesday and Wednesday. Remember with the time change we arn't on the air til 8:10 MB time.
