Bombers Come Back To Beat Stangs

The Flin Flon Bombers found themselves down by a goal after two periods of play, but a strong third period helped them come back to beat a solid Melfort Mustangs team last night at the Whitney Forum 4-3.

Rob Johnson would tie the game with a short handed goal midway through the final frame to spark the Maroon and White who kept pouring on the pressure.

Hunter Arps was holding the Stangs in there with some quality saves late in the game and it looked like we might  need extra time.

Flin Flon really wanted this one bad and Brandson Heine was able to score his second of the game with only 34 seconds remaining ,  to power the Bombers to their 23rd win of the year and 13th since Christmas.

Ben Lanfermann had the other Bomber goal, with Warkentine (2) and Ruschkowski replying for Melfort.

Over 700 in attendance last night and I think it is safe to say that the Bomber faithful are ready for the post season.

The Bombers out shot the Mustangs 35-30 last night including 13-7 in the third period. Special teams were also in Flin Flon's favour going 2 for 4 on the PP, while Melfort was 0 for 4. Rob Johnson also had the big short handed goal.

The Mustangs take the season series 5-3, but the Bombers did play Melfort very well with two games being decided by 1 goal.

With last night's win Flin Flon will clinch 9th overall with 54 points and one game remaining in the season. Melville has two games left with 50 points, but the Bombers own the tie breaker.

Flin Flon will close out the regular season this Friday against Laronge at the Whitney Forum. 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have the call.

The Bombers still don't know who they will play in the Survivor Series as Notre Dame beat Humboldt last night to jump one point up on Weyburn for 7th.

The Hounds don't have any more games left and the Wings will close out their season in Yorkton Friday needing a win to finish 7th. Notre Dame has the tie breaker.

No matter who the Bombers opponent will be, the Survivor Series will start at the Whitney Forum on Sunday with games two and three if necessary on the road Tuesday and Wednesday.
