Bombers Snap 8 Game Winless Streak

It might of been the Bombers best two games of the season this past weekend at the Whitney Forum.

After a great effort against the hottest team in the league Friday, which saw the Bombers drop a 4-2 decision against Weyburn, Flin Flon was right back on the ice Saturday facing Notre Dame.

Flin Flon picked up their 6th win of the season, holding off a late push by the Hounds to pull out a 4-3 win on parents night.

The night started with the introduction of players, parents and billet parents which seemed to rally the young Bomber squad.

Specialty teams were huge and the Bombers picked up a power play goal to open up the scoring when captain Ben Lanfermann fired a beautiful shot from the point that beat the sceened Jacob Standen.

Flin Flon would double their lead in the second when Caleb Moretz scored another power play goal just 57 seconds into the middle frame.

It looked like the maroon and white were in cruize control when they added two more goals in the third from Shumlanski(5) and Collin with his team leading 12th of the year to put the Bombers up 4-0.

Even down 4 goals in the third, Notre Dame never quit and after Kosteniuk scored to make it 4-1 at 12:07, the Hounds got some life.

With the goalie out for the extra attacker, Notre Dame scored two goals in the last minute to make things very interesting. Veterans,  Longjohn and Smedsrud both hit the back of the net to put the Bombers back on their heels.

A late penalty by Notre Dame would stop the come back and the Bombers hung on 4-3 for a much needed victory.

Flin Flon got a remarkable performance from 18 year old goaltender Niklas Anderson who stopped 20 out of 23 shots for his first ever win in a Bomber uniform. His glove hand in particular was very good on Saturday.

Specialty teams were the big difference with Flin Flon going 3 for 5 on the PP, while the Hounds were 0 for 8.

This was a monumental win to stop an 8 game winless streak with the last Bomber win coming on Friday October the 6th VS Kindersley. It was an October to forget with a record of 2-7-1, but now the focus can shift to November.

Just what the doctor ordered to end the month as the Bombers will begin the new month with a home and home against the Melfort Mustangs.

Melfort is on top of the division at 11-3-2-1, while Flin Flon sits third in the Sherwood at 6-8-0-3. This will be the first meetings of the year with the first game at the Whitney Forum Wednesday, and the return matchup in Melfort Thursday.

102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have Thursday's game in Melfort including the Great North GM Coach's Show at 8:15 and play by play at 8:30.
