The Nipawin Hawks came into Flin Flon Friday and snapped the Bombers 2 game winning streak with a 5-2 win at the Whitney Forum.
The Hawks were winless after a pair of tough outings against the Melfort Mustangs on opening weekend but looked very determined on Friday.
Veteran Logan Casavant opened up the scoring in the first period on the power play, and the Hawks never looked back in powering to their first win of the season.
Rookie sensation Crystopher Collin tied it mid way through the second but that is as close as the Bombers would come as Nipawin's Jake Tremblay answered that late in the frame to put Nipawin up 2-1 after 2.
Grant, Laferriere and Harasymuk into the empty net, gave the Hawks all the offense they would need in the third period as they pulled out a solid 5-2 road win. Collin would score another goal late, but that is all the offense the Bombers could muster on Hawk net minder Jake Anthony.
Crystopher Collin has delivered as advertised and is the highest scoring rookie in the league with 6 goals in just 3 games, and is responsible for over half the Bombers offense so far this season.
Flin Flon out shot Nipawin 39-32 and ended up 0 for 4 on the power play while the Hawks went 2 for 6.
This was a little revenge for Doug Johnson's crew who faced the Bombers for the first time since their thrilling 7 game playoff series in the spring. The Bombers stormed back after trailing 3 games to 1, to stun the Hawks in 7.
The Bomber record will slip to 2-1 and they sit second in the Sherwood with 4 points, 4 behind Melfort who are a perfect 4-0 to begin the year. Nipawin is 1-1-1, and are just 1 point behind Flin Flon as both teams and the rest of the league prepare for the Showcase in Saskatoon.
Flin Flon will hit the ice Sunday against Weyburn, and play Notre Dame Monday. Next action at the Whitney Forum will be on Friday and Saturday September the 29th and 30th against new look Melville.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
