Klippers Surprise Bombers 8-5

The Kindersley Klippers erupted for 6 straight goals  and never looked back in picking up an 8-5 win over the Flin Flon Bombers last night at the West Central Events Centre.

Kindersley led 4-0 after 1 on a pair of goals from Pickett, Plotnikoff and Gerbner. They scored two quick goals in the second from Sargent and McCann to blow the game open at 6-0.

Flin Flon would finally respond when Brandon Lesko who just got back into the lineup from the World JR A Challenge potted his 13th of the season on the powerplay at 9:54.

Daley came right  back for the Klippers before Watson (14) and Sinclair(6) replied for the Bombers to make the score 7-3 after 2.

The Bombers came out and had a decent third period firing 12 shots at Justen Close beating him twice, when Sinclair would get his second of the game and 7th of the season on the powerplay. The red hot Jason Lavalle  scored his 17th late in the game also on the PP.

The lone Klipper goal was also a powerplay marker from Gerbner who collected his second of the night.

It was a rough night for former Klipper goalie Gunnar Nielson who let in 4 goals on 10 shots in the first period for his first official start in a Bomber uniform. Brenden Newton replaced him in the second and didn't fare much better stopping 18 out of 22 shots.

Special teams were big with both teams combining for 8 powerplay goals on 16 chances.

After winning 6 straight games in December, the Bombers dropped their last two games on the road trip and are now on their Christmas break.

Flin Flon has strung together an incredible November and December going 13-4 and are a solid 21-10-2-2 on the season,  with a 9 point lead on Nipawin for first in the Sherwood Division. The Hawks have 5 games in hand.

The Bombers are also battling with Estevan for second overall , 3 points behind the Bruins with a game in hand.

More importantly the Bombers are getting scoring from all 4 lines and Dondre Watson has appeared to have broken out of his slump with 4 goals in his last 5 games and Greyson  Reitmeier is second in overall scoring with 45 points in 35 games.

Lavallee is red hot and his picked up 14 points in his last 10 games and leads the team in goals with 17. Shumlanski and Zimmer have also picked up the pace offensively  and I can hardly wait to watch this team heading into 2017 as they are very fun to watch.

Flin Flon will have a shorter Christmas break than normal and will be back in action when they face Laronge in a home and home December the 30th and 31st.

The New Years Eve game at the Whitney Forum will be a first for the Bomber organization and they are hoping lots of people will come out to kick off the new year with one of the hottest teams in junior hockey.

There will be lots of give aways and surprises throughout the night and game time will be 7:30.
