Bombers Blast Bruins

December continues to be good to the Flin Flon Bombers, who picked up their fourth straight win in the month including a complete dismantling of one of the best teams in the league Estevan 8-3 on Friday.

The Bombers scored four times in the first period including Williams collecting his first ever SJHL goal when he fired a nice shot under the right arm of starting goalie Nathan Alalouf.

Shumlanski added his 8th of the year short handed, Nyman scored his 2nd and St.Onge picked up his 14th to put the Bombers up 4-1 after 1 which chased Nathan Alalouf from the net in favour of Curtis Meger.

Lacoursiere scored his 4th of the season on the powerplay in the second with Zimmer (10) and Watson (11) also scoreing  on the power play in the third. Watson's goal was a long time coming as he snapped a 17 game goalless drought when he broke in alone on Meger and fired a quick shot top left hand corner under the bar.

Matter of fact it was Estevan he scored his last goal against on October the 13th. There was a nice ovation from the guys on the ice and from his bench as Watson sported a big smile and finally got the monkey off his back.

The other Bomber goal came from McCausland who scored his third of the year and second with the Bombers in back to back games. He also scored against Weyburn on Wednesday.

Estevan's goals came from Barnstable, McChesney and Holt.

Flin Flon fired 51 shots at the tandem of Alalouf and Meger and were great on special teams going 3 for 7 on the powerplay and also scored a short handed goal.

This was the Bombers first win of the season over the Bruins who improve their head to head record at 1-0-0-1 and now Battleford is the only team in the league that Flin Flon has not beaten. The Maroon and White will get two chances to do that next week.

Zac Robidoux was back between the pipes and he stopped 32 out of 35 shots for his 9th win of the year.

The Bombers improve to 19-8-2-2 and they remain 9 points up on Nipawin for tops in the Sherwood after the Hawks beat Estevan 2-1 on Saturday. Nipawin has three games in hand.

Flin Flon also pulled to within 5 points of Estevan for second overall and the Bombers have 3 games in hand.

This was the Bombers last home game before Christmas and will now  play 4 in 5 nights heading into the break all on the road.

It all starts Tuesday in Laronge, with the much awaited return to the Civic Centre in Battleford Wednesday and Friday and wrapping up in Kindersley Saturday.

Wednesday's game will be the first time the Bombers return to Battleford since eliminating them from the playoffs last spring.

We will take CJNB'S radio feed for both games Wednesday and Friday.

102.9 CFAR'S next broadcast will be the home and home with Laronge Dec 30th and 31st.
