Bombers Prevail 4-3

After a disappointing 4-3 loss in OT Friday, the Flin Flon Bombers rallied for a 4-3 win in regulation on Saturday and picked up their third win of the season in Laronge.

Let me be the first one to say that Laronge is a lot better than I thought they would be, as I thought they competed every shift  and came at the Bombers hard both nights.

In Saturday's game the Wolves scored first when Pejkovic was left alone in front of the Bomber net and he tapped a pass from Blaquire past a helpless Robidoux to make it 1-0 Laronge.

The Bombers quickly responded when St.Onge found the back of the net on a great feed behind the Laronge goal courtesy of Lesko to tie it at 1 after 1.

Flin Flon scored the only goal of the second when the exciting Dondre Watson flipped a puck over the shoulder of Laronge goalie Josh Dechaine to send the Bombers to the locker room up 2-1 after 2.

Watson is quickly becoming one of the most exciting players in the league and is a threat to score every time he is on the ice. Watson leads the Bombers with 4 goals so far this season.

The Bomber power play got going in the third period when Lesko and St.Onge struck with the extra attacker and seemed to be in control of the game, but the Wolves fought to the end.

Prouty and Elder both scored late in the game but it wasn't enough and the Bombers hung on for their third win in four tries this season.

Zac Robidoux made his first start of the year and looked solid stopping 32 out of 35 shots while Josh Dechaine stopped 26 out of 30 shots and suffered the loss. Final powerplays were Flin Flon 2 for 8 and Laronge 1 for 4.

Mike Reagan mentioned on the Murray GM Coach's Show before the game that he wanted to see his team start to bury on their scoring chances and was expecting his veterans to start leading the way.

That is exactly what he got with all 4 goals coming frm veterans including Lesko, who Reagan is expecting lots of offense from this season. St.Onge scored a pair,  to give him 3 on the season and looks like he may have a break through year and I think 20 goals is not out of the question.

After the weekend the Bombers improve to 3-0-1-0 and are alone in first place in the Sherwood Division. Laronge slips to 1-3-0-0.

Next up for Flin Flon is the Showcase in Warman which starts Monday. The Bombers face Weyburn Monday at 6:30 and Yorkton Tuesday at 12:30 SASK time.

Our next broadcast is this Saturday against Melville 7:30 at the Whitney Forum. We hit the air at 7:15 with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 7:15.
