The Flin Flon Bombers fired over 50 shots on net and put together a solid effort from the opening and closing buzzers en route to a 6-1 win in the latest installment of the battle of Northern Manitoba.
Flin Flon made their way to the GLMC to tackle the MJHL'S OCN Blizzard in a game that once again featured a lot of rookies. The Bombers dressed 12 rookies while the Blizzard went with 13.
It didn't take the Bombers long to hit the score sheet as one of the veterans who did dress, Brandon Lesko scored twice in the opening period to give team Maroon a 2-0 lead after one.
OCN would hit the score sheet early in the second when Kierean Raknerud would score on a tough angle out of the corner with lots of traffic in front of the Bomber net.
The Bombers responded with 3 more goals to end the second courtesy of new comers Hooper, Fischer and Pickler.
Keegin Mathews would add his second of the pre season just 43 seconds into the third period to make the final 6-1.
Bomber goaltending duties were split between Brenden Newton and Dakota Delbridge, while the Blizzard went with the tandem of Logan Thiessen and vet Emilien Boily.
The highlight of the night was a good scrap betwen local favorite Willy Eikel and OCN'S Hayden Yaremko who got into a good dust up in the second period. Eikel gave up a lot of height and weight but was able to land some good shots and brought the crowd to their feet after saluting his bench with the decision.
A decent crowd on hand with 296 the announced attendance which is more than I have seen there the past couple of years when we make our annual trip.
Flin Flon improves to 3-0 in the pre season and will wrap up exhibition play hosting OCN this friday 7:30 at the Whitney Forum. The Blzzard played their first pre-season game last night.
Don't forget the Bomber golf tournament this Saturday with a shotgun start at 1PM. There are still tee times available so contact the Bomber office at 204-687-4404. It is a great way to mix with players and the coach's and you will also get a steak dinner and have a chance at great prizes.
