Bombers To Face Wings

Well it is official, the Flin Flon Bombers will face the Weyburn Red Wings in the SJHL Quarter Final Playoff Series.

The Nipawin Hawks came into Flin Flon last night  and beat the Bombers 4-3, while Estevan picked up a 5-2 win over Notre Dame, which means the Bombers will finish 6th overall.

The Bruins wind up with 73 points, the Bombers end up  with 72.

Despite the outcome this was a very entertaining game and the Bombers had plenty of chances to get at least 1 point.

Nipawin struck first on a powerplay goal from Thudium, but that was quickly answered on a powerplay goal  from Etter to tie the game at 1 after 1.

Gerbner and Mignault put Nipawin up 3-1 after 2.

The Bombers came out and were very determined and focused in the third and did everything they could to try and come back and win this game.

Flin Flon would tie things up on powerplay goals from Smith and St.Onge to fire up the crowd, with roughly 10 minutes remaining in the third.

Gerbner would pick up his second of the night to restore the Hawk lead, when he was left alone in front of the Bomber net and was able to fire the loose puck past Zac Robidoux. This would stand up as the game winner.

Flin Flon wasn't done yet as they would get a late 5 on 3 powerplay.

Alex Smith would also get a penalty shot, but they couldn't get any more pucks past Kristian Stead who was solid stopping 33 out of 36 Bomber shots.

Mike Reagan was very emotional after last night's game. " This is a tough pill to swallow  right now, the guys battled back to give us a chance to win or get at least 1 point and get us into the 5th seed. This is an extremely dissapointing way to end the year considering how good of a second half we have had."

The Bombers will now have to put their focus on the Weyburn Red Wings and the league's best goaltender Jack Burgart. This will not only be a challenge travel wise, but the Wings have had one of the top teams all season, and were the only team Flin Flon did not beat this year.

Saying that the playoffs are a whole new season and if we have seen anything out of this group this season we know they will never give up. The series is expected to start the weekend of the 18th and all Bomber playoff games broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
