This Is It

It will all come down to 1 game tonight when the Flin Flon Bombers host the Nipawin Hawks at the Whitney Forum.

The Hawks clinched fourth overall with 3 points against Melfort on the weekend, so the best the Bombers can do is 5th with a single point tonight.

Flin Flon just needs a point tonight or a regulation loss by Estevan and 5th is all theirs and a first round matchup with Nipawin starting the weekend of March the 18th. A Bomber regulation loss and an Estevan win tonight means they would meet Weyburn in the first round.

The Bombers are fresh off taking both games against Laronge on the weekend including a 7-3 win at the Whitney Forum Friday and a 2-1 OT win in Laronge Saturday. Jason Lavallee had the hot hand with 3 points Friday and the OT winner Saturday.

Flin Flon's record is: 34-19-0-4, which is 3 more wins than last year's team. Nipawin is : 35-17-3-2.

The head to head matchups favour the Bombers 3-1-1, with 2 of those wins coming at the Cage in Nipawin.

Both have been on a roll since Dec 1st, with the Bombers having the best record in the SJHL over that time and  Nipawin the third best record.

This just shows you how competitive the league is with the Bombers having a tough time making up ground on the teams ahead of them, with most of the top teams continuing to win on a nightly basis.

Mike Reagan confirmed that Alex Smith will be back in the lineup tonight and a big congratulations on being chosen the RBC Player Of The Year. Smith has been on one  big roll since October and has been the league's top scorer over the last 40 games.

He has 32 goals and 55 assists in 52 games which has him third among the top scorers in the league. Smith is the first one to compliment his linemates Joel Kocur and Brandon Switzer, who have formed the best trio in the league and have been a lot of fun to watch all season.

Congratulations as well to Bomber goaltender Zac Robidoux on being chosen the SJHL Goalie Of The Week. Zac was very instumental in both wins against Laronge and was the best player on the ice in the OT win on Saturday. Robidoux has the league lead in shutouts with 5 and is the first Bomber goalie since Danny Dennis in 92-93 to record 5 in a season.

I hope there is a big crowd on hand for the last regular season home game tonight as the Bombers push towards the playoffs. This was supposed to be a rebuilding season and it turns out this team has more wins than last year's squad with the likes of Rauckman, Evans Campbell, Allison and Brett Boehm.

Mike Reagan continues to show year after year why he is one of the best recruiters in the league and has built another strong team who looks to be in the mix for their first championship since 92-93. So get out to the Whitney Forum tonight and give them the support they deserve.
