Kodiaks Clinch First

The Creighton Kodiaks clinched first place for the second straight season in the Northern Saskatchewan Football League, but it wasn't easy.

For the first time in their brief but successful history, the Kodiaks trailed a game at half time.

The Churchill Chargers out of Laronge who are used to playing in a bigger and tougher division came to Creighton field, scored on their opening possession and took a 26-20 lead into the half. Laronge were able to get their running game going and also scored a nice touchdown when Chase Woods took a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Good teams make adjustments and that is exactly what the Kodiaks did coming out in the second half, scoring on their first 2 possessions and holding Churchill to only one touchdown which came in the last minute of the game.

The kodiaks also forced a couple of fumbles and did not allow Churchill to get anything going offensively.

Final score Creighton Kodiaks 46- Churchill Chargers- 27.

Creighton scored 26 points in the second half before Churchill responded with a late touchdown.

This is what head Coach Ryan Karakochuk had to say about trailing at a half for the first time:

"It was different, it was quiet on the sidelines and guys were starting to point fingers. We had to get to half time, get back to Creighton football and realize why we are so good and start doing the things that make us good. I thought we adjusted well, I think the guys responded well and they were also upset with how they played in the first half."

The Kodiaks will move on to play  at Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert for the second straight year and will get a chance to defend their Ralph Pilz Trophy. The game will take place October the 17th.

Kodiak touchdowns came from Tyler Williamson who had 3, Chris Reynolds 2 and Dean Rainville 1.
