Bombers Tame Blizz

The Bombers were able to handle their MJHL counterparts for the second time in the most recent battle of Northern Manitoba which wrapped up at the Whitney Forum on Saturday.

This game featured a much bigger veteran presence for both teams and there was a much better pace than what we saw in OCN two nights earlier.

It took Flin Flon only 2 and a half minutes to open the scoring when Brandon Switzer connected with Joel Kocur to put the Bombers up early 1-0. Jason Cohan followed that up with his second of the pre season less than 3 minutes later, and Flin Flon took a 2-0 lead to the locker room.

Cohan looks fantastic , has shed a few pounds and I really like how he drives to the net. Cohan had a tough time getting in the lineup last year with a deep Bomber team but looks determined to be an impact player this year.

The two teams traded goals in the second with rookie Brandon Lesko putting the Bombers up 3-0 at the 13:32 mark. Creighton's Brenden Barron had the only Blizzard goal when he scored on Devin Debastos from behind the Bomber net. 3-1 Bombers after 2.

Flin Flon got a couple of insurance goals in the third when Switzer  pocketed his second of the night, and rookie Cole Zimmerman, who by the way head coach Mike Reagan is really high on to make the final 5-1 Flin Flon.

Final shots Flin Flon 36 and OCN 23.

PP Flin Flon 0 for7, OCN 1 for 7.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan commented on his team's second straight win over OCN." I think it was good, I thought we played good for the majority of the game, there were some sections that kind of got in a lull and that sort of thing, but we are happy these games are over and now  we can concentrate on Kindersley."

The Bombers will get a fourth exhibition game afterall as they will travel to Warmen on Sunday and play the Kindersley Klippers. Flin Flon lost a game with Nipawin, and Kindersley lost a game with Melville so both coach's got together and decided that they would try to arrange something against each other.

Reagan told me that he is looking forward to the challenge and will start to cut down numbers after tonight's game and try to get down to 25 or 26 players. The Bomber coaching staff will certainly have some tough decisions and tonight's game against Kindersley could decide some players fates.

This will be the Bombers final pre season tune up as they prepare for the start of the regular season this weekend when they open  up against the Nipawin Hawks. Both games Friday from the Cage, and Saturday from the Whitney Forum can be heard on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
