Stangs 6 Bombers 2

The Melfort Mustangs seem to have the Bombers number this season, taking five out of the six contests, including a convincing 6-2 win at the Palace Wednesday.

Travis Mayan picked up his 18th of the season to open up the game at  13:20 of the opening period, and the Mustangs never looked back. The Bombers would get a power play goal when Alex Smith scored his 12th of the season midway through the second period, to get the Bombers on the board, but that is as close as they would get.

Melfort carried a 2-1 lead into the third period and erupted for 4 more goals on 23 shots to blow the doors open.

Mustang goals came from: Hyrsky, Fauchoux, Robin and Boutin. The Bombers would end up getting a short handed goal from Chris Rauckman who deflected an errant Richard Palmer shot into the back of the Mustang net for his team leading 21st of the year.

Fauchoux and Mayan, Melfort's 2 top point getters have a combined 17 points against the Bombers in the six meetings. Flin Flon will need to find a way to shut these two players down if they are going to have any success in the two remaining games with Melfort after Xmas.

The Bomber record stands at: 15-4-4-3, 4 points behind Melfort for first in the Sherwood Division with 2 games in hand. The Nipawin Hawks are right there in third - 3 points behind Flin Flon for second , and both teams have played 26 games.

No time for the Bombers to stew about their lacklusture effort Wednesday, they have two huge home games this weekend including Kindersley in town for the final time tonight.

Flin Flon took the only meeting between the two teams, when Adam Beukeboom shut out the Klippers at the Whitney Forum 4-0 on November the 19th. Beukeboom made 36 saves for his second straight shutout after blanking Melville 7-0, four nights earlier.

Kindersley have reeled off 3 straight wins and continue to have the league's best record at: 21-6-1-2 through 30 games. Look for them to get some redemption after picking up only 2 points out of 4 games on their last Northern road swing. Game time tonight 7:30.

No broadcast tonight, we will have the call against the Estevan Bruins tomorrow night starting with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and play by play at 7:30.

Congratulations to Head Coach and GM of the Bombers Mike Reagan on being chosen a Co- Coach for Canada West at the World Junior "A"  Challenge coming up in Kindersley later this month. Reagan will join the Yorkton Terriers Trent Cassan in Calgary for the selection camp this Sunday through Tuesday.

8 SJHL'ers will be vying for spots on this year's team including Bomber defenseman Tanner Lishchynsky ,  who has 4 goals and 10 assists this season since coming over from the RBC Champion Yorkton Terriers in an off season trade.

The final roster should be released on Thursday December the 11th.
