Bombers 3 Wings 1

The Flin Flon Bombers knocked off the Weyburn Red Wings 3-1 Friday night en route to their 7th victory of the season to improve to: 7-2-2-2

The Bombers are tied with the Melfort Mustangs for first place in the very competitive Sherwood Division with 18 points.  The Nipawin Hawks are just one point behind Melfort and Flin Flon and all 3 teams have played 13 games.

Laronge is not very far behind either with 13 points.

Scoring for Flin Flon were Chris Rauckman with his league leading 13th of the season. Eric Pedersen also scored his 4th of the year with Tanner Lishchynsky  adding his second.

Nick Pouliot scored the only goal for Weyburn.

Simon Hofley had one of his easier nights kicking out 20 of 21 shots to preserve the victory and was good when he needed to be. Jack Burgart was a lot busier stopping 41 out of 44 shots.

This is the first chance I have had to see Weyburn play this year and I thought they looked a lot better than a 4 win team. I thought they skated well and were the most physical team I have seen this year. Jack Burgart is also very good betwen the pipes and is as good as anyone I have seen this season.

I think it is safe to say that Weyburn will continue to get better and will start to make their way up the standings.

Flin Flon continues to hit their stride and have only lost 2 games in regulation and remain the league leaders in goals with 53. The Bombers have 4 lines that can score and Mike Reagan feels they have the deepest blue line he has seen in the 8 years he has been behind the bench.

The blue line will only get deeper with the addition of Tyler Bell who is coming to the Bombers from Lethbridge of the WHL.

Reagan also mentioned that forward Seamus Maguire has left the team to return home to play Junior B.

Flin Flon will now hit the road for two games Wednesday and Thursday. The Bombers will get their first look at the defending Royal Bank Cup Champion Yorkton Terriers. Yorkton looks to be in a rebuilding mode this year with a record of: 4-6-1-1 and sit in third spot in the Viterra Division.

The Bombers are back in Melfort to face the Mustangs in a first place showdown on Thursday. These two teams will see a lot of each other as they will each other 4 times in a span of over a week.
