The Flin Flon Bombers (1-0-0-1) will face off against the Melfort Mustangs (1-1) for the first time this season Wednesday at the Northern Lights Palace.
This will be the first of 8 meetings over the course of the season. Flin Flon won last year's season series 4 games to 2.
Flin Flon took 3 out of a possible 4 points this past weekend against a very determined Nipawin Hawk club, including a come from behind win in the Bomber home opener on Friday. Chris Rauckman is the top sniper so far firing 4 goals in 2 games, including a big hattrick on Saturday.
The Mustangs had to settle for 1 win in 2 tries against Laronge, losing 4-2 in Laronge Friday before rebounding for a solid 3-1 win on home ice Saturday. Adam Fauchoux has scored 3 out of the 5 Mustangs goals so far and looks poised for a breakout season.
The Bomber's already have one of the most explosive offensive group of forwards, which has just got a bit deeper with the return of last year's team scoring leader Austin Calladine. Calladine picked up 34 points in 46 games last season including 17 goals and should have a chance to pot 20 plus this year.
Mike Reagan's team will even get deeper later this week when they complete the deal with Drumheller for futures owed in the Devin Buffalo trade from last year's deadline.
Reagan says they will be adding another quality player, who will be joining the Bombers very soon.
Make sure you listen to all the action on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com starting with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 8:15 MB time. Drop of the puck at 8:30.
Wednesday's broadcast will include a chat with Bomber forward Chris Rauckman for the Dembinsky's player profile in the first intermission, and a chat with Mustang play by play guy Brandon Crowe in the second intermission.
After the game in Melfort the Bombers will return to the Whitney Forum for a six game home stand, including games this Friday and Saturday against Estevan and Humboldt.
