Bombers Come Back To Trim Hawks

It was a great comeback that saw the Flin Flon Bombers squeak out a 5-4 shoot out win over the Nipawin Hawks last night.

Flin Flon opened up the scoring in the first period when Griffin Mason scored 3:10 in. the Hawks responded in the second on a goal by Brandon Arnold.

Most of the scoring came in the third period when Dean Allison put the Bombers up at 7:01, before Nipawin tied it 5 minutes later on a goal from Dunlop.

Evan Mignault would give Nipawin their first lead of the night, making it 3-2 at the 12:44 mark. Chris Raukman who came to the Bombers from Drumheller in the futures for Devin Buffalo would tie it up, when he buried a nice shot blocker side on Hawks goalie Shayne Blomquist.

Nipawin would then retake the lead when Arnold would score his second of the night with less than 2 minutes remaining in regulation.

Tyson Empey the hottest Bomber so far in the pre season, would tie the game with only 42 seconds remaining, when he was able to bury his 5th of the pre season in a goal mouth scramble.

The two teams decided to skip over time and went right to the shoot out, where Dean Allison would blow a wrist shot low glove side to send the Bombers to their third pre season win.

Allison was the 6th Bomber shooter.

It was another great effort for local product Zach Garrett, who picked up another assist, his fourth point of the pre season. Garrett has worked very hard and is definately in the running for a spot for opening day.

Mike Reagan is very pleased with his work ethic, and points a side he is a guy who has no problem playing in his own end. Garrett has a chance to be an important role player for the team this season.

Dean Allison who came over from Port Alberni last year,  is a nice story in the pre season so far where he collected 3 points last night and now has 7 total. He says he really enjoys playing with Evans and Empey. " It has gone really well, me Emps and Evans have a lot of chemistry, and I think part of it has carried over from Empey and me playing together in the playoffs last year. We have been very strong as a unit and a lot of my success has come from playing with them."

The Bombers improve to 3-2 on the pre season and will wrap up their exhibition games when Swan River comes to town on Friday  7:30 at the Whitney Forum. This will also be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com

Mike Reagan the Bomber Head Coach and GM says he is happy with how his team has improved in the pre season. " There are lots of improvements still to be made, but I was very happy with how we were able to come back a couple of times late in the third period. It was very important from a confidence stand point. The next week and a half will be huge for us as we get ready for the regular season."

The Bombers have cut three players: Quinn Mosby, Danton Oliver and Lien Miller Jeannotte.

Reagan also commented that he should have a deal for Dalton Menke worked out in the next couple of days.
