The Flin Flon Bombers will return to the Whitney Forum this weekend as they will prepare for the first place Warman Wolverines.
Warman has been the surprise team in the league this year and have already reeled off 11 wins, which is impressive when they only had 14 all of last season.
The Bombers return to action after a weekend sweep in Kindersley with wins of 4 to 3 on Friday and a convincing 6 to 3 victory on Saturday. You could also make a case that the Bombers are a surprising team this season even though they are the defending SJHL Champions.
Flin Flon has been decimated with injuries, but still find a way to get it done. The Bombers had 11 regulars out of their lineup last Saturday but still picked up the win.
The Bombers continue to score by committee and don't have a single player in the top 20 in league scoring while the Wolverines have three and have scored the second most amount of goals in the league with 70 in 16 games.
Only the Weyburn Red Wings have scored more. The Bombers rank 6th in total team offense with 56 goals in 15 games. Flin Flon has been very good defensively this year and have only given up 41 goals this year which has them ranked third overall in the league.
Melville and Melfort are the two best defensive teams in the league so far, but the Bombers are right there. Warman mean while, have given up 53 goals and are currently the 7th best defensive team and play a high risk high reward type of game.
The Wolverines are extremely skilled and very quick, so the Bombers will have their work cut out for them to try and slow down their high powered offense. The smaller dimensions in the Whitney Forum may help out Flin Flon this weekend.
The Bombers took 3 out of the 4 head to head matches last season out scoring them 13 to 11, but if my memory serves me correctly, Warman could of taken both games at the Whitney Forum.
The Wolverines were snake bitten last season and really struggled to score and took the play to Flin Flon. If Warman plays the way they did at the Forum last year, the Bombers will have more than their hands full as the Wolverines are really offensively gifted.
There should be some decent crowds this weekend as it is the annual Parent's weekend with lots of faces right across the country and beyond in attendance this weekend.
Games will take place tonight and tomorrow at 7:30pm and we will broadcast tonight's game on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the Pre Game at 7:10pm and drop of the puck at 7:30pm.
