It was a weekend that Flin Flon Bomber fans in Northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan, not to mention around the rest of the Bomber Nation had patiently been waiting for.
The 2026-27 season is officially underway and the Bombers have started right where they left off after winning their first SJHL Championship in 33 years.
Flin Flon went into Laronge on Friday night and buried the Wolves by as score of 6 to 2.
The night didn’t start well with the Wolves scoring 27 seconds into the opening period, but Flin Flon would get on track.
It looks like the Bombers will have scoring depth once again with six different scorers finding the back of the net including new comer Eli Heroux, Hudson Brehaut, Leo Seitz, Rhett Ewen, Jack Martin and Nathan Lalimiere.
It was Ewen’s short handed goal that was the turning point for the Bombers late in the second period to give them a 4 to 2 lead heading into the final period.
Finn Werner looked good in his return between the pipes making 19 saves on 21 shots as the Bombers start the season 1-0.
Final shots were 38 to 21 in Flin Flon's favour with the Bombers going 2 for 6 with the extra attacker while Laronge was 1 for 6.
The Bombers will now have a week to prepare for one of the biggest weekend's in franchise history with the Hall Of Fame Weekend starting on Friday.
It all begins with the Home Opener against Laronge on Friday night which will include the Banner Raising Ceremony. You will want to get there early before puck dop at 7:30pm.
Saturday will be the Bomber Alumni game at 2pm and on Saturday night you will have the Hall Of Fame Inductions.
The Hall Of Fame Inductions Ceremony will start with cocktails at 6pm, dinner at 7pm and the Inductions will start at 8pm.
The event will be once again be hosted by former Flin Flonner and current ESPN Broadcaster Leah Hextall.
Once again Congratulations to all the inductees including Tim Madarash who is the team’s all time leading scorer. Rob Beck, the home town product who helped lead the Bombers to the league title in 92-93. Mike Reagan, the most successful Coach in Bomber history with over 600 career victories and fresh off guiding the Bombers to their first league title in 33 years. Builder Larry Feszczyn, who is one of the most dedicated volunteers in history. The 92-92 Bombers who won the both the SJHL Championship and Anavet Cup with a 6 game series win over Dauphin will also be inducted in the Team Category.
