Bomber Powerplay To Much For The Wolves

You can make it seven straight wins for the Flin Flon Bombers as their powerplay was clicking in Laronge on Friday as the Maroon and White doubled up on the Wolves 6 to 3.

Fresh off a 10 to 3 drubbing of Laronge earlier in the week, Flin Flon continues to dominate their UPL rivals.

The Bomber powerplay is the best in the entire league at 25 % and Flin Flon went 3 for 7 with the extra attacker and that was the biggest difference in the game.

Flin Flon scored two late goals in the opening period with Joey Lies collecting his team  leading 18th of the year on the PP. Rhett Ewen would score just 17 seconds later and it looked like the Bombers were on their way, with a 2 to 0 lead after one.

Give the Wolves credit, they came out to play and scored three goals in just over a 7 minute span to stun the Bombers early in the second.

Jacob Morrison, Owen Turner and William Knox all found the back of the net to get the home town crowd behind them at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.

Flin Flon shook that off and got back on track with Ryder Mucha and Ryan Ulmer both scoring late in the frame to put the Bombers back out in front 4 to 3 after two.

Ulmer’s 6th of the year stood up as the game winner as Flin Flon was able to hold Laronge to just 3 shots in the third period and got a couple of insurance goals from new comer Colin Miller and Wyatt Stinton.

Miller came over to the Bombers along with goalie Charlie Tritt and defenseman Ryder Knutson from the Humboldt Broncos in a block buster trade on Thursday.

The Bombers are sending draft picks, pdf’s and future considerations in exchange for these three veteran players that they are hoping will get them over the top and help them pick up their first league Championship since 1993.

All three Broncos welcomed the trade and seem to have been well received by their new Bomber team mates.

Final shots in the game were 38  to 16 in favour of Flin Flon in the 6 to 3 win, with the three powerplay goals the difference.

Fin Werner was back between the pipes for the Bombers and he only had to make 13 saves for his 8th win of the season. Charlie Tritt is expected to make his first start for Flin Flon on Saturday VS Yorkton.

Riley Zezel suffered the loss, giving up 6 goals on 38 shots but I thought he played well.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan gave us his thoughts on the new comers Colin Miller and Ryder  Knutson on their Bomber debuts. “ I thought those two guys were awesome. Miller created a lot and had a lot of opportunities. I am familiar with Miller, so I wasn’t surprised. We have been watching a lot of video on Ryder and he is even better than we thought and he is going to fit in perfect with this group. He talks a lot and as he plays more, he is going to be a real important part of this team. I am very happy with the early results of this trade.”

Flin Flon improves to a league best 25-9-0-1 and have 51 points which is 5 more than the streaking Battleford North Stars,  who are 8-2 in their last ten and have leap frogged the Weyburn Red Wings for second overall.

The Bombers will now get a 7 day break before they host the Yorkton Terriers at the Whitney Forum on Saturday night.

This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these two teams with the Bombers taking two of the first three. They haven’t seen each other since November the 4th.

Puck drop is 7:30 at the Whitney Forum.
