Nikki Ashton Has Reached Out To Ottawa

On Thursday, NDP deputy critic for Indigenous Services Niki Ashton (Churchill—Keewatinook Aski) urged the Minister for Indigenous Services to deliver the necessary funding and support for Red Sucker Lake First Nation to access clean drinking water.

In a letter to the Minister, Ashton highlighted that Red Sucker Lake First Nation relies on cisterns for clean drinking water for which Indigenous Services Canada is not providing the necessary funds to clean – most tanks have not been cleaned for up to 20 years.

Ashton mentioned in her letter that people living in the community can’t rely on water to brush their teeth, wash food or cook and about 200 homes are being affected.

Ashton will continue to push the government to act and deliver the necessary funding so that people in Red Sucker Lake First Nation get access to clean drinking water.
