October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Senior Manager of Policy Elisabeth Holmes shares some statistics on breast cancer in Canada and Manitoba.  She says it’s estimated that in 2020 about 27 thousand Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and this does represent 25 percent of all cancer cases in women in 2020 and about five thousand women will die from breast cancer representing 13 percent of all cancer deaths.  She adds specifically in Manitoba its about 855 Manitoba women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 100 women will die in 2020.

             

Holmes stresses the importance of screening for breast cancer especially in women between the ages of 50 and 74.
