The Manitoba Government is Recognizing This Month as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The government is raising awareness of the serious issue of sexual violence.  The Executive Director of the Women’s Resource Centre Colleen Arnold says sexual violence is a serious issue across Canada but especially in Manitoba.  She explains according to Stats Canada in 2015 there were 1356 police reported sexual assaults in Manitoba and the rate is more than 104 sexual assault victims for every 100 thousand people which is almost two times the national rate which is more than 59 victims per 100 thousand population and these are alarming but even more alarming is that research shows 95 percent of sexual assaults are not reported to police.
