The Flin Flon Lions Club has purchased a new Handivan to replace one of the two vans currently on the road. Rick Hurst who coordinates the Handivan program for the Club says the new van has fewer seats so drivers will now require only a class five driver’s licence. He says it’s a little shorter and a little narrower that the other ones. He adds they had to go with reduced seating because of the new wheelchair seating laws so now they’re able to take one person in a wheelchair and five other people at a time. He notes outside of that it’s a little smoother ride than what the old one is.
The Lion Club is presently holding their annual summer draw to support the purchase of the Handivan and other projects. Members are selling tickets on a draw with a guaranteed prize of 15 thousand dollars with the draw taking place on July 8th.
