Bombers Hold Off The Hawks And Keep Winning Streak Alive

It wasn't the prettiest of games but the Flin Flon Bombers went into Nipawin last night and pulled out a 3 to 2 win against the Hawks.

The Bombers took advantage of a couple of Nipawin penalties  early and got a break when Jacob Vockler was awarded a penalty shot less than 9 minutes into the game.

Vockler took his time went in slowly and made a nice deek to beat Tyson Endall low stick side for his league leading 12th of the year.

Koen Senft would get his first of the year on the powerplay just minutes later,   when he was able to snap a shot past Endall with lots of traffic in front of the Hawk net.

The Bombers looked like they were on their way with a quick 2-0 lead. The Hawks would respond with a late first period goal from veteran Joel Mabin,  who snapped a nice shot over Harmon Laser Hume's left shoulder with just 33 seconds left in the first.

Nipawin carried the momentum into the second and they struck on the powerplay when Evan Forest was left alone in front of the Bomber net just 52 seconds in.

The game would remain tied until early in the third when a couple of Northern Manitoba boys would go to work, Thompson's Carter Anderson fed  a beautiful pass to Justin Lies who soared down the left wing and fired a shot top shel for the game winner.

This was Lies 9th of the year and that is the second most on the team so far this year.

Neither team could muster another goal and that did stand up as the game winner.

Harmon Laser Hume was able to beat his former team for the second straight time this season and made 29 saves on 31 shots. Tyson Endall was steady and he also made 29 saves.

That is 11 straight wins for the number three team in the country as the Bombers improve to an impressive 12-0-1 and lead the league by 7 points over both Melfort and Humboldt.

The Hawks fall to 6-6-0-1.

A really good test for the Bombers this weekend as they will host the Melville Millionaires who come to town with an impressive 7-2 record after a win against Melfort last night.

Doug Johnson, the long time coach from Nipawin will make his return to the Whitney Forum on Friday. Johnson has turned the Mills around very quickly and has had a lot of good battles against the Bombers through out the years.

It will be great to see Doug and the great fans from Flin Flon once again.

Saturday's game will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.
