An Offensive Explosion

The Flin Flon Bombers had one of the most impressive offensive weekends in their history putting up well over 100 shots,  and scoring 18 goals enroute to a weekend sweep of the Laronge Ice Wolves.

Flin Flon took Friday's game at the Whitney Forum  9 to 5 and after a slow start in Laronge that saw them fall behind early 3 to 1, they quickly rebounded to win the rematch in Laronge Saturday 9 to 6.

It was a weekend that Jacob Vockler won't soon forget,  putting up 7 goals in the two games including back to back hat-tricks to pace his team to the two wins.

Vockler also added two assists and now sits second in the league in overall scoring with 9 points in 4 games.

Mason Buekert of Laronge has 10 points in 4 games and had a four goal game against Flin Flon on Friday.

It was also a breakout weekend for Alexi Sylvestre who picked up 8 points including his first goal of the year to go along with 7 assists.

A number of Bombers were able to hit the score sheet for their first goal of the year including Justin Lies, Bailey Ewonus, Cole Tanchuk, Anthony Piccininno, Liam Bridger and Brock Mueller.

Kenny Marquart got his first start of the year on Friday and stopped 30 out of 35 to get the win. Harmon Laser Hume started on Saturday and stopped 19 out of 25.

The Bomber powerplay finally got going and was 0 for 12 coming into the weekend but they got that back in check going 5 for 11.

Usually when these two teams get together, goals are tough to come by and it isn't usually out of the realm to see scores of 2 to 1 or 3 to 2 and everybody was surprised by the amount of goals including the two coach's.

I expect both teams to tighten up defensively and work on a lot of defensive zone coverage as we head into games for the up coming weekend.

The Bombers will take the two wins and improve at 3-0-1 to start the season and are one point behind the Melfort Mustangs who are 4-0 to start the young season.

Laronge will drop to 1-3.

Next up for the Maroon and White Express will be the Notre Dame Hounds who make their way to the Whitney Forum for a pair of games this weekend.

This is early for the Hounds to hit the North as they usually make the trek in January. The Hounds are the only team in the league without a win but you can never take your opponent lightly.

The Hounds have had some success in Flin Flon the last few years.

We will have Saturday's game on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.
