Bombers Big Guns Come Alive

The Flin Flon Bombers staved off elimination with a giant performance at Affinity Place,  with a 4 to 1 win last night to even their best of 7 SJHL Quarter Final with the Estevan Bruins  at 3 games a piece.

The Bruins put themselves in a great position with a 2 to 1 OT win on Friday,  where Cam Hrdlicka stopped an incredible 66 shots and the Bruins were able to win at the Whitney Forum to go up 3 games to 2.

Flin Flon made the trek for game 6 and played one of their best games of the series and got a big boost as Cole Duperreault and Jeremi Tremblay both made their first appearances of the playoffs.

The Bruins did hit the board first when Mitch Kohner re-directed a point shot from Owen Miley on the pp midway through the first period and took a 1 to 0 lead after one.

Flin Flon came out and had a great second period and Jeremi Tremblay scored just 1:09 into the period , when he was left alone in front of the Bruins goal and tucked a puck in past Hrdlicka.

Alexi Sylvestre followed that up finishing up a 2 on 1 with a beautiful shot over Cam Hrdlicka's left shoulder for the eventual game winner. This was Sylvestre's team leading third of the series.

Cole Duperreault grabbed a rebound a few minutes later and the Maroon and White Express jumped up 3 to 1 after 2. You could see all kinds of emotion on the Flin Flon bench and you just had a feeling this was going to be their night.

The Bombers did let a 3 to 1 lead evaporate back in game 3, but would not be denied last night.

After killing a 5 on 3 ealy in the third, the Bombers went to work defensively and only allowed the Bruins to get 6 shots on goal in the final period.

Team captain Lucas Fry was able to pocket his second of the series into the empty net with just under 5 minutes remaining and Flin Flon was able to celebrate with the 4 to 1 win.

Harmon Laser Hume was incredible and played his best game of the playoffs stopping 27 shots including many timely saves to get his team even in the series.

The one big save off Cody Davis early in the second period is one that I remember vividly that was key for the Bomber come back.

This  series has had a little bit of everything including suspensions, tough  injuries, great goaltending, big hits, lots of air horns so why not a game 7?

This will be the second straight year that these two clubs will have to settle things with a game 7, but this time it is the Bombers who will have home ice advantage at  the Whitney Forum.

This is also the first game 7 at the Whitney Forum since 2017 when the Bombers beat the Nipawin Hawks.

There is no reason that we shouldn't see 1500 fans tomorrow night for this great group of young men who continue to battle all kinds of elements for this great franchise and  community.

The roster has been decimated by injuries but this team continues to  find ways to win lots of big games  and are finally starting to get some regulars back.

It was great to have Cole Duperreault and Jeremi Trembley back and Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan says Matt Egan is making progress and expects Jaeden Mercier to be back if his team can make it to the next round.

You can pick up yout tickets for tomorrow's game 7 at the Bomber office on Main street from 1 to 5 tomorrow  and avoid standing in line at the game.

Don't forget to bring your radios and mobile devices and tune in to Creighton Furniture Flin Flon Bomber Playoff Hockey with the pre game show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30.
