Four Point Weekend

No shortage of offense from the Flin Flon Bombers this past weekend,  as they had no trouble filling the back of the net with a 5-0 win over Melfort on Friday and a 9 to 3 win against Notre Dame Saturday.

Friday night behind a 31 save performance from Cal Schell,  the Bombers shook off a bad first period and took it to the Mustangs in the second and third periods.

Nathan Gagne scored on the powerplay,  and Flin Flon never looked back as Zac Smith would add a pair of goals with singles from Mason Kaspick and Jaxon Martens to grab the victory.

It was great to see Cal Schell back between the pipes and the 20 year old out of Burlington picked up his league leading fourth shutout of the year.

The Bomber record is 5 with Morgan Cey and Danny Dennis sharing the mark. You would have to think with the way Schell is playing and the amount of games left in the season he has a good chance to make history.

Notre Dame has been one of the big surprises in the league this year and had beaten the Bombers in their only meeting back in October.

The Bombers pounced on the Hounds early and 8 different players found the back of the net for the 9 to 3 win.

Jeremi Trembley, Cole Duperreault, Mason Kaspick, Brett Wieschorster, Xavier Lapointe, Cole Vardy, Kylynn Olafson and Ethan McColm added the offense.

McColm scored his first ever SJHL goal when he one timed a shot just inside the blue line.

Max Hildebrand got the start and was good when he had to be making 26 saves for his fourth win of the season.

The Bomber record now sits at 14 and 6 after the weekend and they are once again first place in the Sherwood Division, 2 points up on Melfort with a game in hand.

The Maroon and White will get a great test this weekend with the Estevan Bruins coming to town. After a slow start the Bruins are 9-1 in their last 10 and sit second overall with 31 points.

They beat the Bombers in their only meeting back in Estevan on October the 20th.

102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have the broadcast of Friday's game with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and drop of the puck at 7:30.
