Even after dropping the first game 6-4 at the Whitney Forum on Sunday, the Bombers found a way to come back and take the Survivor Series 3 games to 2 over Notre Dame.
It didn't look good for Flin Flon who had their backs against the wall in a short series, needing to win both games in Wilcox.
Flin Flon took it game by game with a 4-3 OT win on Tuesday and followed that up with a 4-1 win last night.
Brandson Heine was the OT hero, scoring 3:48 into the extra period which added some much needed confidence for the deciding game.
Donovan Houle- Villeneuve was dialled in and let the way with the natural hat-trick as he ended up with 6 goals in the three games to pace the Bombers. Heine also scored into the empty net for his third of the series to cap the victory.
Houle seems to be anticipating where the puck is going on the ice and was a one man wrecking crew in the series and scored a lot of big goals.
Brenden Newton looks like the goalie of old and was key in both wins including 34 saves last night and it looks like it may take a perfect shot to beat him. He is seeing everything and has had incredible rebound control. He is moving very well and also looks very confident.
Newton is 20 and showed that he doesn't want this season to end any time soon.
Jack Flaman was the only Hound to beat him in Wilcox as he scored all four of their goals.
I wasn't surprised with last night's outcome as I mentioned to Mike Reagan on last night's CFAR Post Game Show that his team looked poised and were the team attacking all night long. A total reversal from what fans saw at the Whitney Forum on Sunday.
Flin Flon won't have long to celebrate as they are back on the ice tomorrow in Nipawin, to face the top team overall in the regular season in the SJHL Quarter Finals.
Nipawin finished with 93 points and only lost two games in regulation all season at the Cage. The Hawks also took 6 out of the 8 head to head meetings with the Bombers, but that really doesn't mean anything heading into the weekend.
We all know the playoffs are a different animal and I would never want to bet against one of Mike Reagan's teams. The Bombers have beat the Haks in the playoffs, twice in the last 6 years, including a nice come back last year.
Nipawin had the Bombers down 3-1 and couldn't put the final nail in the coffin, and Flin Flon just kept getting better in rallying for the 4-3 series victory.
Doug Johnson is also notorious for having good regular seasons, then struggling in the playoffs. Nipawin hasn't beat a Sherwood opponent in the playoffs in 8 years and may be the heavy favorite, but the pressure is all on them.
This young Flin Flon team is having fun, and like the role as the under dog and will give Nipawin everything that they can handle. This is a matchup that a lot of people wanted to see and will provide great entertainment for both communities.
