Make it two straight wins for the Flin Flon Bombers who edged the league leading Melfort Mustangs 2-1 last night at the Whitney Forum.

Daylan Marchi opened up the scoring 13:35 into the opening period, and the Bombers were able to keep the momentum going after a huge win over Notre Dame on Saturday.

Once again it was the special teams which were the difference as Crystopher Collin would score his team leading 13th of the year early in the third period on the power play. Collin was able to get in front of Mustang goalie Evan Plotnik and re-direct a point shot from Ben Lanfermann for the eventual game winner.

Drew Warkentine would score the only goal for the Mustangs at 6:46 of the third, but that is the only shot that would elude youg Nik Anderson.

Anderson was rock solid again in picking up his second straight win and stopped 33 out of 34 Melfort shots including 12 in the third period.

The Bomber power play which was invisible for a good part of October,  has been fantastik the last two games going 4 for 9 and is one of the big reasons why they have been able to win two in a row. They have also killed off 12 straight man advantages including three Melfort power plays last night.

This should help the young Bomber confidence level, who were able to take down one of the top teams in the league without the likes of three important veterans including Brenden Newton, Jordan McCausland and Nick Shumlanski.

Flin Flon improves to 7-8-0-3 and have played their best hockey at the Whitney Forum  going 6-2-0-2. If they can start to win on the road, they should be able to move up the standings and challenge Melfort and Nipawin for the division lead.

Melfort still lead the division and overall league standings at 11-4-2-1, and are 6-1 at the Northern Lights Palace.

These two teams will battle again tonight in the second half of the home and home and you can catch all the action from Melfort including the Great North GM Coach's Show at 8:15 and play by play at 8:30.
