The Creighton Kodiaks will meet the Cumberland House Islanders for the Ralph Pilz trophy this Saturday in Prince Albert to determine the top team in the Northern Saskatchewan 6 Man Football league.
Cumberland House finished first at 5-0, while the Creighton Kodiaks were 4-1 with their only defeat coming against Cumberland back on September the 28th.
Head Coach of the Kodiaks Ryan Karakochuk was in the CFAR studio yesterday and mentioned what they had to do to try and be successful. "I think some of the keys to the game are, we need to score first. They haven't trailed yet and I would like to see how they respond and fight through some adversity. We also need to control the time of play by keeping our offense on the field as much as possible. We need to run the ball and grind out the clock so we can keep our defense off the field and allow them to stay rested and if we can do these two things, you never know what can happen."
This will be the Kodiaks third trip to the Northern Saskatchewan championship game winning the Ralph Pilz trophy in 2014 and 15. Creighton missed the playoffs last year.
Cumberland House was led offensively by running back Seth Anderson who led the league with 96 points and Creighton will have to find a way to slow him down on Saturday if they are going to be successful.
The Kodiaks are finally healthy and are very happy to have Shawn Francois and Kaylab Ranks back in their lineup. Both players will give Creighton a gigantic boost this weekend.
Kickoff will be 2 PM Sask time from the Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert this Saturday. Win or lose the Kodiaks will be guaranteed to play another game as they will then move on to Provincial play.
If they win Saturday they get to host a game, if they lose they will play on the road.
