Bombers Host Stars

The Flin Flon Bombers will play the Battleford Stars for the fourth and final time tonight at the Whitney Forum.

Flin Flon has taken 5 out of a possible 6 points against the Stars including back to back wins at the Civic Centre right before Christmas.

Battleford is coming off a big win last night in Nipawin beating the Hawks 3-2 in a shoot out, and doing the Bombers a favour in the process. With a single point last night the Hawks lead the Bombers by 2 points for second in the Sherwood Division, and Flin Flon has a game in hand which they will make up tonight.

The Stars are challenging for second in the Kramer Division, 5 points behind Notre Dame, with the Hounds having 3 games in hand after tonight. Battleford is playing good hockey since the Christmas break and are: 6-3-0-1 in their last 10.

After a 4 point road trip the Bombers are : 5-2-1-2 in their last 10 but do have the best record in the Sherwood since Christmas at 7-3-2.

Congratulations to Bomber forward Brett Boehm on being chosen the SJHL player of the month for January. Boehm has been tearing it up since coming back from the NCAA, and picked up 8 goals and 11 assists in 12 games played in the month, which was capped off with a hat trick in Notre Dame on Saturday.

Tyler Bell was chosen the SJHL Defenseman of the month for January, and the most recent Defenseman of the week for his great play on the road trip which wrapped up on Saturday. Bell has picked up 9 goals and 8 assists since being picked up from the WHL in October. 8 of his goals have come on the power play.

This is a big week for the Bombers who look to gain ground on Nipawin and continue to battle with Notre Dame for 5th overall. Both teams have played 45 games and have 60 points. If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, Notre Dame would get the nod for fifth because they have more wins and the Bombers would start the playoffs against Melville.

Speking of the Mills they are in town Friday for Hudbay Hockey Night In Flin Flon. Don't forget Hudbay has picked up the entire tab for the game and everyone will get into the game ABSOLUTELY  free.

The Bombers are hoping for a crowd of between 1500 and 2000, which would be the biggest crowd since 1993, so make sure you spread the word.
