Bombers Blank Blizzard

For the first time this pre season the Bombers were able to lace up the skates in front of the home  town crowd.

After splitting a pair of road games in Nipawin and OCN, the Bombers did not disappoint with a convincing 5-0 win on Friday over the MJHL'S OCN Blizzard.

The Bombers were able to use their special teams to help power them to the victory.

Seamus Maguire opened the scoring on a short handed breakaway 6:36 into the opening period and the Bombers never looked back.

Ocn took undisciplined penaltys all night long and Flin Flon made them pay on power play goals by Tyson Empey and AJ Kapcheck.

The Bombers built up a 3-0 lead after 2, and added a couple of insurance goals in the third on even strength goals from Austin Evans and Tyson Empey's second of the night.

Brian Archibald who came to the Blizzard from the Dauphin Kings at last year's trade deadline was by far his team's best player Friday night. Flin Flon fired 45 shots at him and many from close range. He has excellent lateral movement and did everything he could to keep his team in it.

I have liked this guy from the first time I saw him last season, and in my opinion you would be hard pressed to find anybody better in the MJHL this season. If it wasn't for him this game  could have easily been 10-0.

Mike Reagan was pleased with his team's effort after the game and thought his team's special teams were very good. " It was one of those games where we had to kill three penalty's in a row and then we went on a five minute power play to start the game in the first period. It was a slow start where you want to see 5 on 5 hockey and be able to get in the forecheck. It is all about assessing talent, but I was very happy with the effort and a lot of our guys looked very good tonight. Their goalie was great and he made a lot of back door saves robbing Woolfrey and Pedersen. Overall our veterans were hungry and probably could of scored a few more goals."

Simon Hofley started in goal and stopped all 14 shots he faced. His rebound control was very good.

Hofley says he has been working hard all summer to get ready for this season." It was so much fun, I have been training all summer really hard and it looks like it is paying off. I can't take all the credit for my success, the team is helping me out a lot. I think we have a really good team this year and it looks like we will be one of the contenders."

The Bombers improve to 2-1 in the pre-season and will face another MJHL team, the Swan Valley Stampeders in Swan River Sunday.

The next pre-season game in Flin Flon is this Tuesday at 7:30 against Nipawin.
