Overtime Again

For the third straight night, overtime was required in the SJHL Wildcard series between the Flin Flon Bombers and Estevan Bruins.

For the third straight game Estevan opened up the scoring when Chris Thorimbert scored his first of the playoffs at 11:49 of the first period. The Bombers would answer, when Eric Pedersen scored on a nice wrist shot over the right shoulder of goalie Matt Gibney.

The Bruins would then jump ahead 3-1, on a pair of goals from Allison and SJ scoring champion Daae. This was Daae's first of the series, and the Bruins again looked to be in good shape early in the third period.

Once again Flin Flon would come back from a 2 goal deficit. Pedersen took a sweet stretch pass from Cole Nichols and went in alone on Gibney and beat him with a beautiful back hand early in the third period.

Pedersen then went to work with Parker Evans Campbell when they swarmed the Bruin net, and Evans Campbell was able to jam in a rebound to tie it. The Whitney Forum went into a frenzy and it looked like the Bombers may win it in regulation.

Estevan was able to hang on and take it to the extra period. Flin Flon came out and got a couple of good chances early in ot but could not pot the winner.

Estevan was able to jump on a loose puck in the neautral zone area and Keegan Allison who has had one very good series, cut across the Bomber blue line and fed a beautiful pass to Lynden Pastachak who scored the winner at 1:47.

The puck actually went right through the net, but there was no question it was in as the Bruins celebrated the win in front of the Flin Flon faithful. Mike Reagan joined me on the CFAR Post Game Show, and he said he knew it was in before the light ever went on.

The Bruins find themselves in the driver's seat leading 2-1 and can wrap up the series with a win at the Forum tonight. It was a tremendous crowd last night and a real pleasure to broadcast the game with so many passionate energetic fans.

The Bomber coach's and players really appreciated it too, and would like nothing better than to beat the Bruins for their fans and take this back to Estevan for game 5 on Thursday.

What can you say about the play of Pedersen, Evans Campbell and Calladine. The Bomber's first line came to play and combined for 6 points and were in on all three goals. They were a threat to score every time they were on the ice last night, and were really able to get the crowd going.

Even though the Bombers came up a little short, they once again proved their will to win and could of easily wrapped this up 3 games to none. This has been fun to watch and great to call and may even be better than last year's series between Flin Flon and Nipawin.

I mentioned that I thought this was a great series for the SJHL to Estevan Head Coach Chris Lewgood and he agreed. I think it will be tough for any other series in the league to live up to the intensity of this one.

What ever you do - make sure you are at the Whitney Forum for game 4 tonight, as the Bombers look to even things up and take it back to Estevan for game 5. One thing this young group has been able to do is rally for a win any time they have really needed one. They really need one tonight and it would be great to do it in front of over 1,000 fans. So let's pack the Whitney.
