Bombers Welcome Back Captain And Get Back In Win Column

The Bombers were able to avenge a 1-0 loss in the shootout to Kindersley on Friday, with a solid 4-2 over Weyburn Saturday.

Flin Flon was able to pick up three out of a possible four points in the last home stand of 2013.  The Bomber captain Cam Blair suited up this weekend for the first time since November the 8th and made his presence felt.

Bottom line - the Bombers are simply better when Blair is in the lineup. Every time he is on the ice, you can see his compete level which is second to no-one in this league. Just ask Dillan McCombie who hasn't been the same since Blair was injured.

Blair picked up a pair of assists in the win , including a nice set up for McCombie, who scored the game winner 54 seconds into the third period. McCombie took the pass, and walked out of the corner and fired a beautiful wrist shot  top right corner on Rylan Parenteau.

Other goal scorers for Flin Flon were: Desrosier(1), Chartrand(5) and Menke who scored his seventh, and first as a Bomber. Menke was the player who came to Flin Flon for Brett Boehm earlier in the week.

Weyburn goal scorers : Farkas and Sheschuk.

The Bombers have vaulted into second place with a record of: 14-15-0-1, in a very tight Sherwood Division. Flin Flon remains four points behind Division leaders Nipawin, are tied with Laronge and are one point up on Melfort.

To say this four game in five night road trip for the Bombers is big, is a huge under statement. This could very well be the road trip which determines if the Bombers are buyers or sellers on the Jan 10th deadline.

Mike Reagan has some big decisions to make, whether he puts his hat in the ring for this season, or really loads up for next year. No question the Bombers have some twenty year olds that a lot of clubs would be interested in.

Mike will really get a good feel for his team , and the compete level of his players with some very tough competition this week. Flin Flon will close out 2013 with games in Humboldt Tuesday, Battleford Wednesday and Kindersley Friday and Saturday.

If Flin Flon has a good trip they could go into the new year first place in the Sherwood, and may look to add a few players and go for it. Yorkton are the defending champs, and seem to be the favorite to win the league, but half lost three in a row and are fighting for first in their division with Melville. Nothing is guaranteed and their are a lot of teams who feel they are be right there.

I have talked to a lot of coach's in the league, and they all feel that deals within the league Jan the 10th will be very tough, because there is so much parity. Even if Mike Reagan decides to deal some more twenty year olds, he may have to deal outside the league to get back equal value.

This will be a very interesting road trip, which will no doubt allow Reagan to decide what direction he will be going.

Reagan was on the CFAR post game show on Saturday and talked about his current situation. " we have looked at a lot of statitistics lately and we are not that far off." " If you take a look at out goals for and against for plus minus, the only teams better than us are Humboldt, Kindersley, Melville and Yorkton." We are fifth in that category, and those are big stats as far as I am concerned." " Both our goalies have save percentages at .930, we just don't score enough." " We have lost a lot of tough games that don't make sense to us." "Our team is better than our record indicates."

CFAR will not broadcast this upcoming road trip, due to other duties I have at the radio station, but we look forward to getting back on the air in 2014. Our first broadcast will be  Saturday January the fourth when Notre Dame comes to town.

To  Bomber fans every where a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope to see all you great fans right through out 2014.
