Bruins 5 Bombers 2

The weekend started well for the Bombers, who played one of their best games in the last few weeks taking down the Melville Millionaires 3-0 on Friday.

Devin Buffalo was steller as per usual stopping all 34 shots that came his way for his third shutout of the season, matching a career high.

Austin Calladine continues to show why he is a bonified star in this league, picking up three points, two goals and an assist to lead the way offensively. Brock Hounsell scored the other goal on the power play.

Mike Reagan said this was one of the best games he has seen his team play and it was extra special, since it came against Melville one of the best teams in the league. This was sweet revenge against the Mills who beat the Bombers a week before 5-3.

The Bombers were hoping to carry this over against the Estevan Bruins who were at the Whitney Forum on Saturday. The Bruins beat the Bombers in Flin Flon earlier in the season 2-0.

The night started well as Danis Chartrand picked up an Estevan turn over just outside the slot and fired it past Matt Gibney to give the Bombers an early 1-0 lead.

It was all Estevan after that point, as they reeled off four straight goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead after two.

Brody Robinson was able to convert a beautiful feed from Brett Boehm short handed, to give the Bombers some life early in the third, but Flin Flon could not put another puck past Matt Gibney. The Bruins added a late goal to seel the deal 5-2.

Gibney was sensational and was the game's first star stopping 48 out of 50 shots. Gibney was especially sharp in the second stopping all 21 shots fired in his direction.

I thought the Bombers deserved a better fate this night, but they ran into a really hot goalie. Flin Flon generated lots of shots, and had a pretty good tempo, but never got on track offensively. Brett Boehm was back in the lineup after serving a three game suspension and had a few splashes of brilliance, but could not put the puck in the net despite some very good oppurtunities.

The Bombers also had some defensive breakdowns which led to three Estevan goals in the second period. Mike Reagan decided to pull Devin Buffalo after the second , and put in Hofley hoping to get a boost from the rest of the team.

During our radio broadcast Saturday, I was trying to remember if I have ever seen Buffalo lifted from a game before. I may be wrong, but I do not remember it happening in any of the games that I have broadcasted.

Estevan goal scorers: Rosselein, Daae, Froese, Duret and Garagan. Jason Duret who was recently picked up from Laronge was one of the best players on the ice, and was rewared with a three point night.

The Bombers find themselves in third place in the Sherwood Division with a record of : 13-15, 26 points which is one point back of Laronge for second, and four behind Nipawin for first . The Bombers are only two points ahead of Melfort, and the Mustangs have a game in hand. It remains very tight, and things can pretty much change night to night.

Flin Flon will enjoy a five day break before they play their final two home games of 2013. Kindersley and Weyburn come to town for games Friday and Saturday. Cfar will broadcast the game with Weyburn on Saturday on our brand new FM frequency at 102.9 and of course flinflononline.com. This will be our final broadcast of 2013.

After the weekend the Bombers will close out the year with four games in five nights, starting in Humboldt Tuesday December the 17th, Battleford on the 18th, and Kindersley December the 21st and 22nd.
