Bombers Get Ready For Mustangs

The SJHL regular season kicked off last night in Melville with the Estevan Bruins taking down the home town Millionares 4-2.

5 games highlight the schedule tonight including the Flin Flon Bombers in Melfort to face the Mustangs in the first part of a home and home series at the Northern Lights Palace.

The Bombers took 4 out of 6 games against the Mustangs last season including the first 2 games to start the year.

Mike Reagan is very much looking forward to the season:

"We have recruited very hard here to get ready for this season, and we feel we have brought in the players that will give us an opportunity to compete for a championship.I like our team and we are looking forward to puck drop tonight."

Both clubs have familiar faces returning and both have been very busy retooling. The Bombers upgraded up front bringing in Jean- Kristoff Grenier from Swan Valley for futures and Justin Rasmussen from Summerside who should be very good in the faceoff circle.

The Bombers also helped out their blueline by picking up former Kindersley Klipper Sean Whelan from OCN for veteran d-man Tanner Clark and prospect Keifer Schaufler.

The Mustangs have also been busy reacquireing defenseman Preston Eshenko from OCN for forward Cody McKinnon. Eshenko rejoins the Mustangs after an off season trade sent him to Alberta for goalie Mitch Maraschiello.

Melfort has also picked up '94 born forward Lane Harbor from Weyburn who picked up 21 points in 34 games last season.

The Mustangs finished the season with an impresive sweep of the Battleford Stars in the Survivor Series before bowing out to the Humboldt Broncos in 5 games. Flin Flon also had their season come to an end against the Broncos in 5 - after a very emotional 6 game series win against the Nipawin Hawks.

The Mustangs are supposed to be better and Flin Flon wants to show that they remain an upper echelon team. Puck drop is 8:30 tonight with all the action on CFAR-590 and flinflononline.com. We will be on the air at 8:10 with the Murray GM Coach's Show .

These 2 teams will be back at the Whitney Forum tomorrow with puck drop at 7:30 for the Bomber home opener.
