Bombers Roll Over Hawks

The Flin Flon Bombers kept their impressive pre-season record entact thanks to another great effort at the Whitney Forum on Friday night.

This time the defending champion Nipawin Hawks were the victims as the Bombers rolled over the Hawks 6-1. Mind you this is a lot different Nipawin team which has a lot of new faces since their last meeting in the Spring.

The Hawks opened the scoring 6:57 into the opening period when Josh Bell re-directed a puck past starting goalie Jacob Delorme.

The lead was short lived as the Bombers would score 6 unanswered for their fourth straight victory.

Vincent Nardone would tie the game batting a puck out of the air on veteran goalie Declan Hobbs with less than four minutes remaining in the first period.

Flin Flon added three more in the second courtesy of Matt Flodell, Caleb Moretz and Brandson Heine. Flodell's was the prettiest of the night, picking up a loose puck before heading to the net with a nice dipsy doodle move on Hobbs. 4-1 Bombers after 2.

Jesse Young and Caleb Moretz would add a couple more in the third period for a 6-1 Flin Flon final.

Jacob Delorme started stopping 9 out of 10, before Pierce Diamond finished the game stopping all 9 shots he faced.

The veteran Declan Hobbs, who has only been back in Nipawin for a week, put on a clinic stopping 18 out of 20 shots and already looks in mid season form. Rookie Patrick Pugliese also played well with 26 saves on 30 shots. Goaltending will not be the Hawks problem as they will ice a very young squad.

Nipawin only dressed two 20 year olds while Flin Flon went with 8.

The Bombers wrap up the pre-season at 4-0 and look very ready for the Laronge Ice Wolves and the start of the SJHL regular season on Friday. Once again Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan will have some tough decisions to make as he will need to cut down numbers for the weekend.

Make sure you are listening to 102.9 CFAR this Tuesday for our SJHL Preview Show, as the very knowledgeable Mike Stackhouse will join me to break down all 12 teams heading into the season.

I will also post on this blog later in the week.
